Pet Project - Futurama 3D

Over the past few years, I have become obsessed with Futurama. The last season was a bit of a dud in my opinion, but the rest, including the films, I watch time and time again - to the point that I pick holes in everything, but still love it. What's that, I just watched every episode of Dexter ever, even the crappier seasons, and have nothing new to start on? Better start Futurama from the beginning again then!

I'm only working 4 hours a day, and job-hunting doesn't take all afternoon - plus I've got a week off, and I don't want to do the housework. I should be using this time to better myself, right?

Well, sort of! I'm finally going to get my geek on with a pet project:
Creating a 3D scale model of Planet Express, reasonably accurate both inside and out.

Now I know I'm not the first to make Planet Express in 3D, nor try to map out its inconceivable inner dimensions - there's a whole load of amazing fan projects, from intricate floor plans, and stunning computer- generated NNY, to the whole thing painstakingly made out of Lego (still my favourite). This is entirely for my own amusement - and to learn some new stuff. I've never used 3D modelling software before, or done any architectural design (beyond crafting tissue box rooms as a kid and playing way too much Sims3). That means lots of doodles, conflicting plans, basic flat designs and learn-as-I-go 3D modelling.

Anyway, here are a few titbits so far:

Boat Doodlery

Here is some stuff I did a while back.

Captain Wonky Beard (yup I know I spelt it wrong in the drawing - although according to Urban Dictionary it could have been right!) is a character I came up with about a year and a half ago, on holiday in a water-faring city. It never went any further, as I'm not a kids cartoonist, but I find it amusing every time I look at it, imagining him having wonky adventures and chatting up ladies' shins!

Somewhat related - my boyfriend and his friend got a boat! Despite the bad luck of renaming a boat, they already had a suitably geeky name in mind, and asked me to design the logotype for the vinyls.

The boat is finally back in the water after a lot of hard work to fix it up, will post the pictures of the final finished products when they've been made and applied.
